Hey, LJ, it's been, like, forever.

I've been having a blast in Glasgow. In fact, I love it so much that I've decided to stay.

When faced with the option of returning to my loveless marriage with Ohio State for at least another year or transferring to the GSA and spending two more years (and a shitload of £££) in undergrad, I enthusiastically went for the latter. It might sound like a foolish decision, but you would have done it, too, if you were me.

I mean, you only live once, right?

This is the view from the window of my flat.

Kind of surreal, though I guess when I'm still here in March, the weirdness will probably have worn off. The art school is incredibly beautiful and will be photographed soon. I spent the last week in Edinburgh and Stirling before finally making it to Glasgow yesterday afternoon in the pouring rain. Despite Scotland's reputation, the first several days were flawlessly sunny and beautiful, resulting in an embarrassingly large amount of landscape and skyline pictures. I'll put them on Flickr as soon as I feel like sitting down for long enough.

So, I swear I'm alive despite my near month and a half absence. I'd like to say that I got a lot accomplished over that amount of time, but other than work, all I've done is knit a sweater and a half and spend a ridiculous amount of money (mine and otherwise) getting everything in order to leave for Scotland.

I'm down in Southern Ohio for the next month now to spend a little bit of time with the family before I leave for nearly a year. It's relaxing and nice not to have to buy my own groceries, but living at home after having your own place is always trying no matter how nice it is to see your family. <s>Especially when they live in Cincinnati.</s>

In a month, I'll be in Edinburgh. Holy shit.

Lillie died this morning.

She was thirteen years old, and had gone downhill really quickly lately, so my family decided to have her put to sleep. Despite the fact that I've had a feeling it was going to happen for a while, it still feels sudden.

Aside from that, everything's been going pretty well. I'm getting everything in order to go to Glasgow, which is somewhat time consuming and stressful, but obviously completely worth every second of it. Right now, the US Department of State is giving me problems about getting my passport, because apparently my ID and birth certificate don't sufficiently prove my identity. Weird!

Summer's been pretty slow so far. I've been doing more knitting lately, which is good. I want to finish a few things before I leave in September, since it apparently doesn't get above 60 in Scotland very often.

    <lj:music>Stereolab- International Colouring Contest</lj:music>

Damn. Writing about your own art work and what motivates you to make it the way you do is hard. Obviously it needs to be something I can be able to do, but that doesn't make it any easier. Especially when my acceptance into a program hinges on my ability to do so.

Today's the entry day for the Undergrad juried show. I'm going to enter three of my paintings if I don't wimp out, but the thought of it embarrasses me a little bit.

I have a very strong desire to call off work and spend the rest of the night drinking chai tea at my desk and reading the New York Times. As nice as it sounds, though, I'm not going to do it.

My application for Glasgow is almost finished. I'm sweating bullets.

Okay, you guys. It's like 60 degress outside and it's only noon. Odds this is going to be the best day ever: very very high.

Also, Wet and Rustling by Menomena? Quite possibly the best Spring morning song ever written.

I found a track on the new Arcade Fire album that I actually actively like. This is, apparently, a big deal.

The quarter's pretty much over for me. I couldn't be more glad if I tried.
